Lonnie Thompson, glaciologist and Distinguished University Professor at The Ohio State University, was awarded the 2005 National Medal of Science. The Award is the highest honor that the United States can give to an American scientist. The 2005 and 2006 award winners for both the National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology were given their medals during a ceremony led by President Bush on Friday July 27, 2007.
Thompson leads the Ice Core Paleoclimatology Group at BPRC along with his wife, Ellen Mosley-Thompson. The Byrd Polar Research Center congratulates Lonnie on this fine achievement!
