Antarctic Meteorology Meetings in Italy June-July 2007

Introduction: The 2nd Antarctic Meteorological Observation, Modeling, and Forecasting Workshop (AMOMFW) will take place in Rome, Italy from June 26 to 28, 2007. The AMOMFW brings together international students and investigators with interests in Antarctic meteorology and numerical weather prediction in particular. The workshop is an excellent opportunity to view and discuss the most recent and important atmospheric research being conducted in Antarctica. The International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) will be held in Perugia, Italy July 2-13, 2007. There is a very wide range of symposia in Antarctic meteorology and related sciences. The meeting website (http://www.iugg2007perugia.it) provides details. Note that the closing date for abstract submission is January 15, 2007 by post and January 31, 2007 electronically.

Travel Grant Opportunity: Applications are sought from graduate students and young investigators (no more than 5 years past Ph.D. graduation) at U.S. institutions for partial travel support for expenses to participate in both Antarctic meteorology meetings. Graduate students and young investigators from under represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Funding is provided by the Office of Polar Programs of the National Science Foundation.

Eligibility And Application: Successful applicants must present a talk or poster at one or both of these meetings and must be enrolled at or employed by a U.S. institution. Graduate students and young scientists are eligible. The awards are expected to be in the $3500 range. Ten or so grants are anticipated in the ratio of 2/3 for graduate students and 1/3 for young investigators. All associated air travel must be on US flagged carriers.
